If you’ve followed us for a while, you know that every decision we make is based on how it taste and on our values. We take pride in our sourcing, we take pride in the quality of our products, and we take pride in our care for our community.
These choices and values have always been innate in who we are, and we will always revel in that.
Making it Official
After almost five years in our current location, we decided to take the leap and officially – and legally – apply for B Corp certification. Ever wonder what happens in the background of small businesses? Our small team spent hours and hours scrutinizing numbers, diving deep into our partners’ values and ethics, and developing spreadsheets. Multiple people from the B Lab analyzed our purchasing decisions, our ingredients, our human resources policies, and our carbon footprint – among many other components of our business. No stone was left unturned. We had various phone calls with B Lab and social enterprise experts who questioned each and every decision we have made.
The result? After over a year of deep diving and analysis, we are officially B Corp Certified!
Now What?
What Changes?
Well – not much. We are still going to go above and beyond to ensure that everything we do makes the world a better place. Legally, we are held accountable, but that is never what motiviated us. We love being a part of our community and donating a portion of our proceeds to organizations that do good. We are proud that the chocolate and all of our ingredients we use make our chocolate the most delicious we’ve tasted (ok we’re a little biased) AND are sustainable AND support local farmers. One of our favorite things to do is to lead chocolate workshops and tastings that raise awareness about local and global issues – and small actions they can take to help.
B Lab – the third party nonprofit network behind B Corps, explain that they began in 2006 to create a new, stakeholder driven economy. We meet their high standards of social and environmental performance, accountability and transparency. We couldn’t be more proud to be a part of a global network of social enterprises that are changing the rules of the game. We’re making the world a better place through chocolate.
